Cases:
Northwest Switzerland Energy Forum campaigns
The parliamentary debate regarding a new nuclear energy law, plus two referenda – one on nuclear-free power generation and the other entitled MoratoriumPlus – produced an information deficit among voters and elected officials.
Our contribution:
  • a preliminary, canton-wide ad campaign that elevated nuclear power to top-public-topic status once more
  • a newsletter for politicians containing more factual scrutiny of the issues
  • a website that served as an interactive information exchange.

Based on the national referendum campaigns of economiesuisse, Switzerland’s commercial and industrial organization, our main campaign addressed the issues of greatest interest to the voters of Northwest Switzerland, site of the country’s nuclear power stations. The campaign included
  • argumentation that met the information needs of voters in Northwest Switzerland
  • articles and contributions by members of Northwest Switzerland Energy Forum
  • provision of a debate chairperson.

The result: In ’03, the public initiatives opposed to nuclear power were defeated by a margin far greater than that attained in 1990.

Mission statement for a major power company
Corporate mission statements are not unlike a country’s constitution. They are declarations of purpose, they define fields of endeavor and attest to principles and values. They help workforces to better understand how they are expected to help achieve their employers’ goals.

This is especially true of power companies with their strong community roots, ever-changing market and dense customer network. As providers of an essential public service, they must be able to depend on their workforce more than most other endeavors.

As we wrote this utility’s mission statement – in close cooperation with the utility – we kept in mind that after all is said and done, it is its ultimate moral and practical compass.
